Hace poco tuve una conversación con un gran amigo que trabaja como entrenador personal en un importante gimnasio de Madrid. Me comentaba que el CrossFit, mi deporte, era solo marketing y que rozaba los límites del peligro, la falta de control y la improvisación. Es curioso, porque desde que practico esta disciplina deportiva no han sido pocas las conversaciones en las que he defendido que mi deporte no solo es completo, funcional e intenso, sino que su enorme capacidad de adaptación lo hace asumible para un enorme grupo de la sociedad. “¡¡Esto es para todo el mundo!! Porque cada uno da lo que puede”.
Pero en este caso la conversación estaba en otro punto. Mi amigo me enumeraba, vídeo tras vídeo, donde los atletas movían grandes cargas, sudaban a borbotones – me comentaba con cierta burla – la cantidad de fotos que había visto en Internet de personas presumiendo de sus heridas sangrantes, de sus moratones, de sus callos y sus marcas… “¡¡¿¿ Y CrossFit vende salud??!!” me repetía una y otro vez…
Esto me hizo pensar, no sobre lo que yo pienso sobre CrossFit, eso lo tengo más que claro, eso lo siento y lo llevo a cabo cada día. Creo que CrossFit es infinitamente adaptable, de hecho, creo que CrossFit es un sistema que ha sabido recopilar lo mejor de muchos deportes para ser brutalmente eficaz y enganchar a gente que no le gustaba el deporte a priori. De eso no tengo duda.
Me hizo pensar sobre la imagen que quiere vender CrossFit. Porque al final, queramos o no, estamos inevitablemente unidos a todos esos vídeos, fotos y comentarios… también debo decir que yo he colgado fotos haciendo ejercicios máximos y fotos de mis manos ensangrentadas, videos de entrenos que me han parecido duros… pero eso dista bastante de lo que me ha enamorado de este mundo.
Después de darle muchas vueltas, creo que CrossFit vende una idea: SUPÉRATE A TI MISMO. Supérate a ti mismo, CON UNA TÉCNICA VIRTUOSA Y NO TE CONFORMES PONIENDO BARRERAS. Y ahí entran los videos de súper hombres… PORQUE HAY GENTE QUE HA LOGRADO VENCER SUS MIEDOS Y HACER COTIDIANO LO EXTRAORDINARIO.
El peligro que tiene esta idea es que se desvirtúe con frases como: “tu entrenamiento es mi calentamiento”. Cuando la idea debería ser más inclusiva. Da igual, como entrenes, de donde vengas, incluso da igual tu objetivo. Pero, si tu deseo es mejorar, avanzar en un camino de trabajo y comunidad donde tu familia deportiva te apoye a cada repetición, cuenta con nosotros. No te asustes, verás a gente realmente fuerte, ellos también tuvieron sus primeros pasos, sus agujetas, tuvieron gestos que no salían y tuvieron que estirar para flexibilizar zonas que ni sabían que existían.
Está bien que mires la cima, esos súper-atletas, pero disfruta del camino, exigiéndote cada día sacar lo mejor de ti. Convirtiéndote en un guerrero de tu propio futuro. Porque al final, el CrossFit, más allá del espectáculo de la élite o los vídeos motivacionales, es una herramienta para demostrarte a ti mismo, que SÍ puedes lograr lo que te propongas en lo deportivo y en todo lo demás.
Disfruta de los vídeos, hazte fotos cuando tus manos sangren y cuelga vídeos gritando tras un nuevo PR (Personal Record). Eso está bien. Pero si alguien que no conoce el CrossFit te pregunta qué es ese deporte de locos, por favor no hables de súper- hombres, de grandes cargas o de callos… habla de que CrossFit es una herramienta donde personas normales aprenden y realizan ejercicios normales juntos a sus amigos deportistas, para tratar de superar sus barreras, mejorar y conseguir la mejor versión de sí mismos.
